In environments where there is an explosive or flammable atmosphere (gases, vapours or dust), ATEX (ATmosphères EXplosibles) approved products must be used. Examples of such environments are printing works, food production, wood or other organic processing, spray booths and last but not least, of course, the petrochemical industry.Â
The two standards, ATEX 95 (94/9/EC) and ATEX 137 (99/92/EC), discuss the equipment used and user safety, respectively. The latest version of this directive (2014/34/EU) was published by the European Parliament in March 2015 and is mandatory across the EU from 20 April 2016.Â
