With modern AGV or other traction vehicles, it is possible to combine steering the vehicle with driving the vehicle. By placing two drive motors in a suitable arrangement and providing them with their own controller, the motors, in combination with the correct control or the drive, can provide steering.
For the result of an electronic drive and control system, VARIODRIVE has several solution options.
One possibility is to use the ITALSEA Dual channel traction controller. These electronic controllers can operate drive and control systems with both PMDC and BLDC motors. The steering angle can be set both via an analog potentiometer/joystick and digitally via a bus system.
A second possibility is to use two separate controllers to drive both motors. Both controllers are then controlled from a control unit, for example a Berghof PLC. This PLC can determine the speed and position of the vehicle in driving and steering direction on the basis of encoders on the motors.
