The precision claw couplings consist of three parts, with the most important component being an elastomeric insert placed between two hub halves. The ATEX elastomeric insert type D is thermally stable, free from play, capable of transmitting high torque moments, and accommodates axial, lateral, and angular misalignments. In addition, vibrations are dampened when the correct torsional stiffness is achieved. Electrical conductivity is also an important characteristic of the special ATEX-certified version, providing a path to ground for any electrostatic charges and preventing the risk of sparking when used in hazardous environments. Preload on the elastomeric insert ensures a play-free transmission, and the precision machining of the two hubs guarantees smooth rotation.

According to the Machinery Directive, ATEX claw couplings may only be used within a closed enclosure. Additionally, both the input and output shafts must be monitored at all times to enable quick shutdown in the event of a malfunction. Dimensions and materials of the standard models remain largely unchanged. And these ATEX models remain consistent with all prescribed misalignment errors, speeds, and torque values of the standard EK models.
